photos of what it looks like out there right now

very wintery but the elms are getting ready to explode with leaves. Tons of just emerging blue bonnet plants everywhere. It's a month away, we might see some flowers by then. The look of just everything in general will be extremely spring like and green by April.

This, above, is the old bearded grandfather oak tree in the area where we have a bunch of kids toys, swings and stuff. It's the Woodzie Playground.

Jimmie loves the trees.

Don't reach for the pretty berries. That's devil cactus.

This is a cattle stock pond, pretty but not good for swimming.

The bare trees are really dramatic at sundown. By the Woodzie all those elms will be solid bright green from 8 feet up, like a wall.

There is cactus but it's not all over. You just have to be aware.

It's a beautiful place. All Texas, all the time.

Map

There are several places to park. By the pond is a good one if you don't have much to carry and are kind enough to keep your car in the perfect, out of the way place. This map is from 2004, we'll post other instructions for people needing to drive right up to their campsites. It's just that the arrows are so good on this one. :)

Do you get an EMAIL?

It's time for more specific plans to be made so that we can have lots of specific plans to break as we go. Very important tradition. We stand around the night of the Woodzie going, "weren't we going to do this, and this?" And laugh. Jimmie and I re-sent invites for people to get login access to this blog. There isn't any way to change the subject line from the extremely goofy "You have been invited to contribute to John's blog". And then it says inside the email "click here if you want to contribute". That's not what's going on. What you are really doing by opening that email and hitting the link is adding the Woodzie to your list of Blogger Blogs. Makes it easier to find and once you get here, it logs you in automatically saving having to enter anything and gives you access to everything on this site. And it sets you up to be able to make your own blogs on this service should you ever want to. And it shows you a page where some of our other family blogs are. If you aren't logged in all you can do is comment and then you have to type your name and email each time. When you log in it does that for you. And if you're logged in you can edit or delete. So join up, it's worth it.

follow us into the woods

this gives you an idea of what the average lay of the land is. Lots and lots of great camping spots to either side of lots of trails. All shady. You can drive up to a lot of the spots - couldn't be an easier place to camp for those who don't often do it but want to try it. Very pretty elm, oak and cedar as far as the eye can see. Which isn't far because of all the elm, oak and cedar.... which provides the privacy. You'll love it.

THE CD

I've talked a little with Mitch and The Lavens and Glenn and Kim about making a Woodzie CD with examples of the music from the people who play.

I'm talking maybe 100 really nice one-off CDs with the Woodzie t-shirt art on the cover. To keep it simple for this first time we could just put cuts off of people's albums or demos. One or two cuts each. That'll make it more of a promotion for the artist's retail CDs which would be the best thing to do. If we want to do a CD of the live Woodzie recordings in the future we can but starting by assembling pre-recorded stuff would make it really easy and very doable this year.

THE SOUND

We can put all the P.A. and stage setup communications in comments under this post. Chris, did you need an extra hand last year? Just asking because it looks like you had an extra hand last year. :)

COMMENTS ON WOODZIE SWAG? PUT 'EM HERE.

Isn't the word swag funny. I wonder where it came from. This is the art that Jimmie just drew that this year's t-shirt will be based on

Jimmie's style is so perfect for the Woodzie. I'm working on getting the lettering done. Shouldn't be long now.
