brief stroll around the main woodzie meadow

People were filtering back in after the walk to see the sun go down, getting ready to start the music. A lot of people camped over this year in picturesque camping areas spread out pretty far in three or four different directions. That one large bonfire there had a fifty foot circle of singer songwriters from 1:00 a.m. through most of the night. The song swap at the end is always the best to me. I try to get that same thing going to start the afternoon but it's almost like it only wants to happen at the end. "It's Always Better When We're Together" just happened to be what Chris was playing over the P.A. while they were setting up and became the soundtrack to this little clip.

as always, Chris makes it happen. He just got back from a long trip to Hong Kong, Japan and where ever else he went and here he is at the Woodzie making it all work.

Baby David's cascarones handiwork. I think he had more fun than anybody.

a lot more fun than this chicken had. My friend Sip brought his whole family and they made a split and Woodzied old school.

I have a ton more photos. I'll try to get them up on Flickr here soon.

Photos from John Sr.

He and Russell's daughter Tiffany and her boyfriend Micheal camped out and had a great time. It was so smart to bring those bicycles. Everybody take note of that for next year, lots of nice trails to ride here.

Final Woodzie T-Shirt Art

woodzie-2007-poster_72.jpg

T-Shirts will be $10 each to make up for the fact that we lost our ass selling them in $5 last year. But these are really nice. We'll have 144, about half of them are a bunch of different styles of really nice lady's shirts. Meaning only for really nice ladies. Also lots of kids sizes.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!

John and I have no idea how many people are coming to the Woodzie. It could be a dozen. It could be a gazillion. Having to re-schedule has really thrown off our Woodzie senses. Please, even if you already told us, even if you think we should know, even if we’ve never met - let us know if you are coming! If you’re bringing friends, your band, your kids, your grandma, or the whole VFW - tell us how many!! Send an email to johnwhipple@gmail.com This is important. We're buying chicken and beer.

The weather’s gonna be stupendous! See you Saturday!!!!

Walk this way....

Kim and Taylor and several other people have asked for super clear directions for their friends. I should let Jimmie do this because super clear just about rules me out. But it's easy enough. And she'll correct me if needed. Beeeeelieve you me, she will.

One way to give people a general starting idea is that it's just two miles north of Gruene Hall. This place may feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere but you get the benefits of seclusion without the long trip. The bottom line is that it's no harder to get to or further out in the country than Gruene Hall.

From either north or south, take exit #191 (Canyon Lake exit) off of I-35. This is just north of New Braunfels, Texas (you need to make sure you're in Texas) and the road is Hwy. 306. Turn west (towards the lake-you can only turn that way) on 306 so those coming from San Antonio will go left under the highway and those coming from Austin will just turn right. There's a giant Tetco super gas station on one corner and an Exxon across from it. This is where hard core campers buy their Snickers and beer.

Go about two miles on 306, over the train tracks then turn right on FM 1102 at the traffic light. That's the road we're on so it's only like three turns to get here.

After turning right on 1102, go about two miles again. You'll go over the train tracks and about a quarter of mile up you'll see a long white sign that says WHIPPLE WOODZIE leaning up against the fence just before the old green house at the corner of Hoffman Lane and 1102. Pull into the gate right next to the sign, more signs will lead you to the camping and music area.

It's EASY. Here is a link to a Google map so you zoom in and out and get turn by turn instructions from where ever you are. And here is a screen capture of a map with scribbling on it showing why Jimmie doesn't let me give directions.

Weather is looking really good for The Woodzie!

All our websites are starting to look like weather stations.

Some forecasts say there's a small chance of showers Friday evening and early Saturday morning but that wouldn't hurt us. The good news is "brilliant sunshine" and "starry skies" for afternoon and evening. Here's the AccuWeather report starting tomorrow and leading up to The Woodzie on the 14th. We've been getting great feedback from everybody about the rescheduled date. Many people had conflicts with Easter (although I'm sure they were huddled inside out of that freaky, freezing weather) so the general consensus is that the 14th is turning out to be a much better weekend. Judging by the response we're getting, I think we're going to have a great turnout. Please come and bring your tent and your family and friends. And your guitar, accordion and bongos. I can almost promise you that if you come you'll be really glad you did. It's SPRING - time to get outside and enjoy it!!!

Woodzie will be postponed one week due to weather. New date: APRIL 14th!!!

Postponing is the last thing we want to do but look at the weather report. They predict rain but even if it doesn't rain heavy look at the low temperature. We're on the edge of the hill country, it's cooler here than San Antonio. With the north wind blowing the chill factor may be 28 degrees and that would be miserable. The mud, the wind, the rain, the cold.... might not be all of those like the weatherman says but even one of them would make things tough specially for older people and families with kids. So weird because we've had so many beautiful days lately.

What we're going to do is move the Woodzie one week back to Saturday, April 14th. Sorry for any inconvenience and we hope that most people can readjust and still make it.

While we were working on the Woodzie site

this weekend getting everything ready, I took these photos. Gives you a preview of what it's like. Click to enlarge. We're planning a group walk to the ridge at about 7:30 to all watch the sunset together. You can see the sunset and the moon at the same time.
